The Barrel House Project: A New Home for Creativity on the Quay

Up Close Theatre and Up Close Radio are thrilled to announce the launch of an ambitious new community venture — The Barrel House Project — right in the heart of Bideford Quay.

Housed in the former Cooper Street nightclub, the Barrel House is set to be transformed into a vibrant multi-purpose performance venue, complete with a cinema and theatre space, bar lounge, and a range of community rooms designed to bring local people together through creativity, conversation, and collaboration.

This exciting project marks a huge step forward for Up Close, creating a permanent base for the arts in Bideford — one that will nurture talent, host local productions, and offer a welcoming space for everything from film nights to live theatre, open mic sessions, workshops, and radio broadcasts.

Before the transformation begins, you're invited to take a sneak peek inside The Barrel House and discover what's planned!

On Friday 18th October, we'll be holding an Open Day, where visitors can explore the venue, view the designs, and chat with members of the Up Close team about what lies ahead.

To ensure everyone gets a good look around, we're running guided tours in small groups at set times:

Places will be limited and offered on a first come, first served basis, so make sure you arrive early to secure your spot!

(Please note: under 16s must be accompanied by an adult, and under 13s will not be admitted to the open day.)
